DAY TRIPS FROM PYAY GARDEN RESIDENCE

DAY TRIPS FROM PYAY GARDEN RESIDENCE

Pyay Garden Residence is ideally situated for exploring the wonderful city of Yangon, but also is the best spot to escape quickly from the busy city and see something of the fascinating and beautiful region outside of Yangon. Here are some ideas:

1. THANLYIN

Thanlyin is a relaxing place with a busy market and shady, tree-lined streets. Close to the town is the KYAIK KHAUK PAYA – a gilded Mon-style stupa on a magnificent hilltop location. (admission, K1000).

2. YELE PAYA. At Kyauktan, 8 miles south east of Thanlyin is this grand, floating temple. Ferries (K5000) take you out from the riverbank.

3. THAKETA CROCODILE FARM at Thaketa Indusrial Estate, Tharkyta. Open 6am-6pm, admission K1400. This farm breeds crocodiles and you can watch the whole work of the farm from a safe distance!

4. BAGO (PEGU). 50 miles north east of Yangon, on the old road to Mandalay, lies this great concentration of Burmese culture and history. The city was founded in AD573.

Among the many attractions are:

Shwemawdaw Paya: a vast pyramid of gold, 376 feet high.

Kyaik Pun Paya: four 100 foot high sitting Buddhas, built in 1476 by King Dhamazedi.

Kanbawzathadi Palace: the remains of a great royal palace dating from 1599.

In the space available we can only give you  a ‘taster’ of the wonderful and fascinating sights of the region.

Our Front Office staff are always ready to help you plan an enjoyable visit to any or all of them.
